Bootleg Rascal

How many bands can say that their music inspired someone to steal a horse? Not many off the top of your head huh. Well Bootleg Rascal's music did. True story! Their trip to the annual Woodford Festival saw them greeted by a Darwin fan who said: “You guys are mad... We always listen to you guys when we just get loose and shit and yeah, you actually inspired us to steal a horse.” So yeah, Bootleg Rascal inspired someone to steal a horse. The reprobates that make up Bootleg Rascal, as dodgy as the name suggests, include Carlos (The Bohawk), Jimmy (Vanilla Gorilla), Jack (Business in the Front, Party at the Back), and Scottie (Man-ly School Boy). **Identifiable hairstyles in brackets.

The four-piece from Sydney and the Gold Coast have been touring since they formed in mid-2013 – it seems music is sort of an excuse to avoid doing other 'adult' things. The group of misfits met and banded together the old school way. In the back room of some seedy band's gig in Sydney is where their humble beginnings lie. Bonding, in more ways than one, over their love of music and tacos and sharing stories of their childish debauchery. Soon after, they hit the jam room (a.k.a home garage) and crafted together some original material and gigged around town. Even supporting good mates, Sticky Fingers, on tour.

As progress would suggest, they recorded and released their first EP. As well as releasing singles 'Overflow’, 'Psychotica', ‘Kings and Queens’ and more recently ‘Oh I Know’ which saw them charting high on the Unearthed charts, headline a tour and sell out venues as well as receiving high rotation on Triple J, one would assume they’re sticking around, sort of like a bad smell but it’s all good. With their hooky disco beats, sick riffs and Carlos's sexy vocals, you'll be singing the tunes hours after you've had a whiff of ‘em, and what's more, you'll have forgotten where you've picked it up from – kinda suits them to a tee.

Bootleg Rascal are on the road again along Australia’s east coast on their Even Highly Unlikely tour, if you’re lucky enough you just might be able to catch them in a seedy bar or enjoying a taco somewhere.
